Welcome to Frankfurt

"150th celebration of anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi" Frankfurt in Germany, A man whose birthday is celebrated by the world as "International day of Non-Violence". The day is 2nd of October and the man is "Mohandas K. Gandhi" in whose honour the bridge is called "Mahatma-Gandhi-Brücke".



Officials of CGI, Frankfurt along with the members of Indian community payed homage to Gandhi ji on his death Anniversary and remembering all the freedom fighters who fought for the independence of the nation on Martyrs' Day on 30th January.
‘The Making of the Mahatma’ a film by Shyam Benegal, about the early life of Gandhi ji during his 21 years stay in South Africa and his freedom movement and fight for civil rights there, was screened on the occasion.



CGI Frankfurt organised a Peace Week titled ‘Mahatma Gandhi as a role model for a peace movement – then and now ‘ at the Strothoff International School, Dreieich from 4th-9th March, 2019.

Following programmes were organized as a part of the celebration:

(i) CG Ms. Pratibha Parkar delivered a speech on Mahatma Gandhi and his role in India's freedom struggle during the opening ceremony on 4 March 2019.

(ii) Rendition of Gandhiji's favourite bhajans by students of the school was organized during the opening ceremony.

(iii) A presentation on `Gandhiji as a Stalwart of Change` by Mr. Jona Aravind Dohrmann from Indo-German cooperation (DIZ)e.V. took place during the week.

(iv) An in house exhibition ‘ A flashback into Mahatma Gandhi’s Life and India’s freedom struggle’ was on display throughout the week .

(v) An exhibition on ‘Khadi India’ presenting products provided by Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) was on display throughout the week.

(vi) A sample of Charkha was displayed to give a live demo to students. A short film on spinning was also screened.

A documentary film on Mahatma Gandhiji was screened during the week.

(viii) An essay competition on the topic ‘Be the change that you want to see in the world was organized for all age groups. The winners of the essay competition were awarded on 9th during the closing ceremony when all school parents and visitors were invited to see the exhibition on Gandhiji.

(ix) Vegetarian food festival was organized on the closing day.

(x) As part of the Gandhi week books in different languages on Gandhiji were donated to the school library.

(xi)The week long celebration ended with planting of an Oak tree at the school campus symbolizing Gandhi's tree plantation initiative and as gift of friendship to the school.
